So one of my favourite places to go at the moment (more so when the weathers nice) is Marconi Sailing Club.
My Dad joined the club 5 years ago, and introduced me to this whole other world. My brother and dad sailed when they were younger, but it all came to a stop by the time I was old enough join in.
The club sits on the Black Water, just a way down from Maldon, and is one of the most peaceful places I’ve ever been to. As you turn off the main road, you follow this long winding path all the way to the water. The drive down the path is a good 3-4 minutes, but it allows you to escape the busyness of the rest of the world and blow the cobwebs away.
I’ve always been such a water baby and love spending time in or near the sea. Even when I’m not sailing, I’m content just sitting by the waters edge, listening to the ripple of the waves and breathing in the salty fresh air. As I write this now I can remember the smell and how it makes me feel.
Due to it being a members only club, the people are very respectful of the site and it’s surroundings. It sounds like such a simple thing, but it honestly makes all the difference to a place. Not everyone has access, so you do feel like you have your own private area to just relax and enjoy.
I think it’s so important to have that one place, or maybe for some it’s places, where you can just lose yourself. I suffer with anxiety and can get stressed very easily, I’m still learning ways to cope with this and not let it overwhelm me, but sometimes I just need to run away. The sailing club is perfect for that and just sometimes, if the weathers good, you get some beautiful shots of the sky. Nature truly is magical!
